Alessi Otto dental floss holder

alessi-dental-floss.jpg

Right. So here’s what I’ll say about this Italian dental floss holder designed by Stefano Pirovano.

As a habitual after-meal flosser, the very last thing I want to do to get a piece of chicken out of my teeth is to use floss that came out of the mouth of a thermoplastic fiber blob creature named Otto. No, I don’t care if he’s available in electric blue, light blue, pink, and red. I don’t want him.

If, for some sick and twisted reason, you do, you can get him at Forzieri for $21.50. Yeah, Otto-used floss doesn’t come cheap. Also available at Amazon.

  • Chocolate Mii for you and Wii

    chocolate-mii.jpg

It’s that time of year when we get to share with you those wonderful tokens of tech love, or rather love for the techie in your life. If you are the partner of a Wii addict, I recommend purchasing this year’s hottest confection–the chocolate Mii.

Chocolate Mii is crafted to look like a miniature Wii, bolding displaying the message “Wii belong together, you and Mii.” Your sweetie will open the Wii-shaped box to uncover two chocolate Miis with red-hot hearts on their shirts. There are boy-girl, girl-girl, and boy-boy combinations, so your love can be shared with your love – or even with your best friend.

Chocolate Miis are each made with 2.1 oz (think king-sized candy bar) of gourmet milk, dark, or while chocolate from Omaha Chocolate Company.

Watch the v-log about these treats here.

Price: $14.95, pick your combination and order at Paul Papa Designs here.

  • warmer_nails.jpg

We all know colored nails can be hot, but who knew they could really keep us warm? Japan Aesthetic Service has concocted a polish which, when applied to your nails, warms your hands and feet. The secret? A far-infrared radiation ceramic composed of capsaicin and tourmaline essence, whose warming properties can improve circulation. Try “Warmer Nails” as a base or top coat over your favorite colors.

Available in Japan for 1980yen ($18).

  • Baby Quasar: Electronic elixir?

    baby-q.jpg

Suckers for a quick-fix, we’ve featured a number of home healing, anti-aging products (Zeno, Marvel Mini, NuFace, etc.) however, another electronic elixir has made a striking debut. Baby Quasar uses Red and Amber light, both known to have powerful anti-inflammatory properties and promote Fibroblasts to increase the body’s production of collagen (the cheek and lip plumping stuff we lose as we age).

While we haven’t tried this device (it’s pricey at $449) blogsters across the web have claimed to noticed fewer lines, wrinkles, and large pores. Others tout clarity over discoloration and less new acne. Still others claim that hair loss is diminished and new hair growth taking place.

Beauty becomes us all; if Baby Q can turn the tide I’ll be the first in line, until then I’ll keep up with my 6-8 glasses of H2O a day, vitamins, exercise, and moisturizer.

Four light wavelengths: amber, red, and infrared.

    Price: $449 at Amazon.

  • fat-counter.jpg

Do we really need this? A precise electronic, abdominal fat meter that can measure the amount of fat deep inside of you, even around your organs? The AB-101, made by Tanika Corp, does its thing in about 30 seconds while you lie calmly on your back with no idea that you’re about to learn something about yourself that may surprise you. I can just see personal trainers employing this machine at gymnasiums all over the country, as yet another tool to scare you into exercising. This sadistic device sells for 294,000 yen (about $2,750 USD).

  • Valentines Day – Mile High Club

    mile-high-club-kit.jpg

I found this kit on the Red Envelope site, more known for romantic gifts, than anything as risque as a Mile High Club kit.

Just because YOU might be curious, here is what it contains:

    * hot cinnamon mints, a folding pocket mirror, scented cloths and a “do not disturb” door hanger to prep the mood
    * massage oil (1 fluid oz.), personal lubricant (1 fluid oz.), a feather tickler, a blindfold, three condoms
    * a mini personal massager and a pleasure ring to indulge each other

It says it’s offered in a pink or “silver discreet hard-sided travel case” ($50.) If you put that “do not disturb” on the door, chances are discretion went out the plane window somewhere at 10,000 feet.

And if you don’t know what the Mile High Club is, then you’re not a member.

  • Beetle larva chocolates

    larva-chocolate.jpg

Mmm. Nothing says “Yum!” quite like the sight of a sweet confection in the shape of a beetle larva. Despite its unappetizing appearance (unless you’re Timon or Pumbaa), the candy is actually made from milk and white chocolate, cornflakes, orange peel, and . . . well, we’re back to unappetizing with this one . . . dried squid.

Anyone with a Japanese address and a questionable sweet tooth can order these chocolates online for about $2 apiece, or head over to the Chocolate and Sweets Expo in Tokyo (going on now until March 9th) in hopes of snagging a sample.

  • Little air purifiers for your baby

    baby-climo-clean-mobile.jpg

Isn’t this air purifer cute? Brought to us by Takara Tomy, the Climo (Baby Clean Mobile) is so compact, it can go where your baby goes, suppressing bacteria, odors, and mold, along the way.

With two 2 modes (normal and quiet) it would also be good for sleeping (wouldn’t it be handy if our babies came with a sleep switch? ) and you can set the timer for 4 hours to 12 hours.

  • simple-human-soap.jpg

These days “touch” technology seems to be infiltrating most a-list gadgetry. In some cases, however, touch-free is just as snappy. Simplehuman’s sensor soap pump dispenses soap without any of the usual mess (you’ll avoid cross-contamination).

Soap dispenses automatically when the sensor is triggered by hand motion. The optional LED light timer helps you get super clean, blinking for 20 seconds to indicate how long to lather for germ-free hands.

There are four volume settings that allow the pump to dispense preset amounts of soap or lotion. Operates on 4 AA batteries (not included).

    Price: $39.99 at simplehuman.com

  • jonathan-purification.jpg

I’m clumsy as hell, generally disorganized, and socially awkward, but I have awesome hair – strawberry blond to red, easy-to-cut, body and bounce all the time. My stylists have always loved playing and experimenting with it. A favorite product line of mine is produced by Jonathan Antin Product (you might remember Jonathan Antin – stylist to the stars – seen on Bravo’s show Blow Out).

In addition to the wonderful shampoos, conditioners, oil sprays, and finishing products, comes the Beauty Water Shower Purification System. With all his years of experience, Jonathan took to experimenting with pure, filtered spring water when working with brittle, damaged hair and dry skin, and has a portfolio packed with a-listing results.

Apparently, Johnathan understands the budgets of normal people, and while we can’t afford pure, filtered spring water, a small investment in his Beauty Water Shower System, provides you with pH balanced water free of chlorine, heavy metals, and harmful VOCs. As promised (I can attest to this), you’ll towel off, dry out, and reveal more softness, shine, and manageability, significantly increasing and maintaining the overall health and color of your hair.
